China currently has a larger population than India, however by 2030, India is expected to surpass Chain and become the most populated country in the world.

There are many beautiful rivers in India. The Ganges River, (Ganga or Holy Ganga, in India) is the largest and most well known of them, and is located in Northern India. The Ganga Basin has a huge population. The land is extremely fertile and it is said that one out of every 12 people in the world live there. You can also see Irrawaddy Dolphin in the river, as well as another species called the ganga River Dolphin. Another interesting note is that there is a rare freshwater shark found in the river that has not much is known about. Other major rivers in India include the Krishna, the Brahmaputra, the Kaveri, the Yamuna, and the Godavari.

The mountain range that you will find covering the northern states is called the Himalayas. Central and the rest of the northern and eastern parts of India consist of very fertile flatlands called the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Southern India is a peninsula and made up mostly from the Deccan Plateau with two hilly regions called the Western and Eastern Ghats. Last, but not least, near India's border with Pakistan lies the Thar Desert.

There are also three archipelagos in India. In West Bengal you find the Sunderbans, Lakshadweep on the southwest coast, and a chain of volcanic islands in the southeast called the Nicobar and Andaman Islands.

India has been a country for many centuries and it's rich culture and heritage has been preserved for the most part. While traveling in India, you will be exposed to some of the most wonderful cultural monuments in the world. India's culture is partly created from invaders and immigrants who have arrived here over the years. The Taj Mahal and other examples of Islamic Architecture are left over from the Mughal Dynasty that ruled between 1526 and 1857.

Another large part of Indian culture is their music. There are many types of music to be found during your travels to India. Some of the most interesting music is the folk music you will find as you travel through different parts of India. There are also interpretive dances that are performed by the people there. They tell epic stories based on Indian legends and are very spiritual and devotional. There is a lot of popular music as well, including Filmi Music and two well known forms of classical music you might hear are Hindustani and Carnatic Music.

Despite popular opinion, there are both vegetarian and non-vegetarian delights to be had in India. Bhel puri, a puffed rice dish, usually with spices added and served on deep fried puris, a wheat bread, is a popular snack often sold on the roadside. The staple foods of India are ones made from rice or wheat, but a wide variety of cuisine is available to you as you travel through different regions. Different types of spices and sweets are available and used in the dishes they prepare in each area. Sweets and spicy food is very popular in all of India.

While shopping for antiques, clothing, fabrics, and other items, in alleyways and open markets alike, one piece of advice, try to take a local citizen or guide with you to make sure you are buying authentic pieces. You will find the hand-carved wood artifacts and sandalwood carvings amazing. The woodcarvers are very talented. India is of course also famous for its hand-rolled incense. You will want to bring some back with you. The fragrances are unique and the incense is of great quality if you find the right shops.

There is also a lot of silk and pure cotton clothing, but a few knockoffs as well, hence the warning to have someone from the local area guide you to the best shops and markets. Leather goods can be had in India for a fraction of the cost here, so if you like leather, go shopping!

New Dehli also sport many shops and boutiques that feature some of the best crafts India has to offer. New Dehli is definitly a place to go during your travels to India.

The Karnataka Folk Museum in Bangalore has displays of rare masks, artifacts, and costumes that are part of India's rich history, as well as a collection of the folk music and videos of folk dances mentioned earlier in this article.

The Taj Mahal in Agra is of course one of the must see sights in India. It took 20,000 laborers to build the Taj Mahal in the 1600s and has become a known landmark throughout the world. From the jail, to the dome, to the garden, the beauty of this building of both Hindu and Islamic design cannot be justified with words alone.

India is a country of diversities. It is rich in various embroidery techniques and printing techniques. Indian real estate rush lures foreign investors

ONG KONG India will have at least 50 property-related initial public offerings in the next year as the real estate industry booms, according to Anish Jhaveri, the head of equity sales at HSBC Holdings in India.

"With the opening of the real estate sector, there's a lot of need for funds," Jhaveri said in a recent interview in Hong Kong. "The government has been giving very proactive support to the whole sector."

The real estate market in India is worth about $12 billion and is growing at about 30 percent a year, Ernst & Young said in a report last month commissioned by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Rising incomes, easy financing and population growth are driving demand for housing and luring overseas investors.

"The appetite for real estate IPOs will be there," K.K. Mital, chief investment officer at Escorts Asset Management in New Delhi said a phone interview Friday. "The young work force is looking for real estate investment, and the financing is available - the banking system is supporting this growth."

Jhaveri said that venture capitalists and overseas investors were poised to invest over $5 billion in the Indian real estate sector, without providing more details. "People are seeking more clarity" on possible changes to property regulations before investing, he said.

His forecast takes into account the possibility that India could allow real estate investment trusts, or REITs, to invest in the nation's property industry. Still, of the 50 real estate related IPOs that he predicted would take place in the next year, he only expected a "small" number to be REITs.

In the past year, India had eight initial share offerings by engineering and construction companies, which raised $478 million, according to Bloomberg data. That compares with the six initial public offerings raising $304 million in the previous 12-month period.

Indian billionaire Kushal Pal Singh's real estate company, DLF Universal, is seeking to revive the biggest Indian share sale once regulators decide on a complaint by shareholders. The New Delhi-based company plans to submit offer documents to regulators, paving the way for an offering by early December, Saurabh Chawla, the finance vice president of DLF, said in a phone interview Friday.

India is short of 20 million housing units, according to a study by Housing Development Finance. That shortage will get worse, according to UBS analysts, citing the growing population and increasing affluence. Asia's fourth-largest economy grew 8.9 percent in the three
months to June from a year earlier.

L.J. Hooker, an Australian real estate consultant major with a significant presence in South East Asia through 700-odd franchisees, is getting set to foray into India's red hot realty market, opening its account here with its first franchisee in Bangalore, followed by Mumbai.

The entry comes at a time when increasing participation of foreign investors and multi-national occupiers is driving the demand for expert-advice in the domestic real estate industry. Further, developers, lenders and investors have also been demanding better transparency in effecting transactions.

Welcome to the Gourmet Indian Recipe Series. Today we bring you the lunch that people never get tired of and now can safely and healthily eat every day, Butter Chicken - Low Carb Style!

When it comes to Indian food, dishes prepared with yogurt, lentils, and flours made from ground beans such as garbanzo; roasted meats, chicken, or fish with vegetable sauces; and an abundance of fruit, both tropical and temperate, are all good carbohydrate choices. You may also not have know that Indian food is the 3rd most popular cuisine in the world.

Ingredients: 1 whole tandoori chicken, 50g butter, 1 cup cream, 3 cups tomato puree, 2 tsp. garam masala powder, 1 tsp. red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp. coriander powder, 1 tsp. ginger paste, 1 tsp. garlic paste, 1 tsp. green chilli paste, salt to taste, chopped green coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

1. Take 1 whole tandoori chicken and cut it into pieces.

2. Heat half of the butter in a frying pan.

3. Add ginger garlic and green chilli paste and saute for 1 minute.

4. Add chicken pieces and fry until brown from all the sides. Remove and keep aside.

5. Add the remaining butter and reheat.

6. Add tomato puree, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder and salt. Stir well.

7. Add little water just enough to make a thick gravy and bring it to boil on high. Reduce the heat and add chicken pieces.

8. Stir gently to coat all the chicken pieces with tomato gravy.

9. Add 1/2 cup cream and simmer for 10 minutes.

Garnish with coriander leaves and rest of the cream and serve hot.

In a completely "stunning example", from doing back-office work for US and European firms, India has progressed to become a "centre for leading-edge innovation", prompting IBM to move all its business consulting design and development to India.

In a recent issue of Information Week, Paul McDougal writes about how IBM is gearing up to spend $200 million this year for the launching of its Indian centre, that will be responsible for handling the bulk of solutions development work for IBM worldwide, while its two existing development centres in India will play supporting roles. McDougal quotes Jeby Cherian, Head of IBM's new Global Solutions Delivery Centre in Bangalore, as saying: "Until this, we depended on any number of solution development centres across the globe. We're moving all of that development to India."

Cherian says, employees at IBM's new Indian centre will look to innovate and brainstorm as how best to combine IBM's vast array of hardware, software, and services products into pre-packaged offerings that their consultants can sell to specific industries. And, teams at the new centre will work on designing a system that will use telemetry devices, embedded processors and mathematical algorithms to help auto-makers better predict and manage warranty claim costs. As well, they will create systems that can work in so-called service-oriented architectures (SOAs), SOAs that feature reusable software components and applications that can be combined and re-combined in numerous ways. Currently, this work is being done at IBM's US and locations elsewhere in the world.

Confirming existing delivery centres outside India will not be closed, IBM says they will instead be "remapped" into demo centres, or as Cherian says: "They will become more customer-facing." Although, Information Week feels IBM's decision to off-shore virtually all its consulting offerings of design and development is sure to draw heat from critics, who believe American corporations should keep jobs, especially ones at this level in America, it has not deterred IBM's "hiring spree" in India, where it currently employs about 39,000 workers in the country, up from 23,000 a year ago.

Amitabh Ray, who runs IBM's global delivery operations in India, tells Information Week, the rate of growth will continue "for quite some time". If IBM's hiring spree in India continues as predicted, it will have more than 60,000 workers or about 20% of its worldwide workforce in India, by next year. While, it has 150,000 workers in USA, recent months have seen IBM quietly eliminating a number of domestic positions.

And, according to Ray, IBM's decision to shift its business solutions development to India will prove highly advantageous for the American company, but by extension its customers, as well. Not only will the move to India help lower costs, but greater centralisation will speed design and innovation. "In the previous model, these solutions were splintered across a number of development centres. We can get cross-visibility; something that's applicable in retail might be applicable in automotive." he went on to say.

IBM hopes its current initiative will give sales a badly needed boost, as the company's software revenues were rather flat in the last quarter, while service sales fell by five percent.

As India grows from strength to strength, the time has not come for it to rest on its laurels; instead the sub-continent should work on retaining its dominant edge.
